Principles for responsible investment

The Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) are a set of six voluntary guidelines designed to help investors integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions. Launched by the UN in 2006, the principles aim to encourage sustainable and responsible investment practices that align financial goals with broader societal and environmental objectives. They promote transparency, active ownership, and collaboration in the investment industry to drive positive ESG impacts. The six principles are:

  1. Incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
  2. Be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into ownership policies and practices.
  3. Seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues from the entities in which they invest.
  4. Promote acceptance and implementation of the principles within the investment industry.
  5. Work together to enhance effectiveness in implementing the principles.
  6. Report on activities and progress toward implementing the principles.
