Gender equality
Gender equality means ensuring that women and men have equal conditions, treatment and opportunities for realizing their full potential, human rights and dignity, and for contributing to (and benefitting from) economic, social, cultural and political development. The concept acknowledges the differences between genders while valuing them equally, promoting equal partnerships in homes, communities, and society.
Equality does not mean that women and men will become the same but that rights, responsibilities, and opportunities are not determined by gender at birth, but rather by individual abilities and choices. Gender equality prioritizes the needs and interests of everyone, regardless of gender, and rejects stereotypes and prejudices about gender roles. It’s a fundamental human right and a vital component of sustainable development.
