Deforestation

Deforestation is the deliberate clearing of forested areas. Throughout history and continuing into modern times, forests have been cleared for various purposes, including agriculture, livestock grazing, and the extraction of wood for fuel, manufacturing, and construction.

This widespread practice has led to significant alterations in landscapes across the globe, impacting ecosystems, destroying biodiversity habitats, and modifying climate patterns. Indeed, trees act as carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere during photosynthesis. When forests are cleared, this stored carbon is released back into the atmosphere as CO2, contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Besides, with fewer trees, there is a decrease in the capacity of ecosystems to absorb CO2, leading to diminished carbon sequestration.
